Canadian Lance Stroll overcame a difficult qualifying position to finish fourth in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship from the Norisring in Germany.

The Ferrari protégé started 15th in race 2 of Saturday's event, which was won by German Maximilian Gunther who in thrilling fashion overtook three rivals at once to record his first win in F3.

Stroll who was banned from last Sunday's F3 race at Spa for dangerous driving, made up three spots off the start with a great pass around the outside of both Alessio Lorandi and Brazilian Sergio Camara at the Dutzendteich-Kehre hairpin.

By lap 21 the 16 year old Stroll had moved up to 8th, when Antonio Giovinazzi, Jake Dennis, and American Santino Ferrucci made contact which led to the races third full course caution. That moved the Canadian up to 5th place. With just a handful of laps left Stroll made a nice pass down the inside of George Russell, And held off the British driver till the end of the race.
