OTTAWA - Jeremy Ten has retired from figure skating after more than a decade of competing for Canada.

The 26-year-old from Vancouver won three career medals at the national championships, taking silver this past season to earn a spot on the world championship team.

"It was an honour and privilege this past season to represent Canada at my second world championships," Ten said in a statement. "I couldn't be more grateful for all the life experiences you can only learn while travelling the world, competing against the best in the world, and being a Canadian athlete."

Ten graduated from Simon Fraser University on Friday, with a bachelor of arts degree in health sciences. He plans to stay involved in the sport, either as a coach and choreographer or as a judge.

He was 17th at the 2009 world championships and finished 22nd at the worlds last March. His best Grand Prix result was seventh in 2008.
