Team Canada centre Eric Staal has left the team and flown back to Thunder Bay, Ontario to attend his grandfather's funeral. He will not play in Wednesday's quarterfinal game against Norway.

Should Team Canada advance to the semifinal round, he will rejoin the team for their game on Friday.

Sam Gagner will be added to the roster and will suit up against Norway on Wednesday. Gagner has yet to appear in a game at this yer's IIHF World Championship.

In six games, Staal has scored four goals and added three assists to stand fifth in scoring on the team.

Jordan Staal of the Pittsburgh Penguins is also expected to return to Thunder Bay following Tuesday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final series with the Philadelphia Flyers.
