GENEVA -- Swiss hockey player Kevin Lotscher is in intensive care with a head injury after he was struck by a car in Sierre early Saturday.
Police told Tribune de Geneve that Lotscher was walking on the side of the road around 4:30 a.m. when he was hit head-on by a drunk driver.
The car also grazed a 21-year-old local man, who suffered minor injuries.
Lotscher had just returned home from the world championships in Slovakia, where he scored two goals in Switzerland's 5-3 upset of the United States. The Swiss team was eventually eliminated in the second round.
The driver, a 19-year-old woman, failed a roadside breathalizer test.
Police are investigating and the car is being examined.
