If Team Canada wants to play for gold at the world under-18 hockey championship in the Czech Republic, they will have to get by the powerhouse Americans in the semifinals on Friday.

You can see the game on TSN and TSN Mobile TV beginning at 1pm et/10am pt.

The unbeaten American team dispatched Canada 5-3 earlier in the week and received a bye into the semis after finishing the round robin first in group A.

Canada beat Russia 4-2 in Thursday's quarter-final to set up the rematch.

Sault Ste. Marie goaltender Matt Murray was excellent in net for Team Canada stopping 28-of-30 shots in the win over Russia.

Team captain Matthew Dumba scored his fifth goal in five tournament games in the win. Dumba opened the scoring for Canada midway through the first period by sliding in a backhand shot past Russian goaltender Andrei Vasilevski.

Kerby Rychel of Tecumseh, Ont. also scored twice while Cap-Rouge, Que.'s Felix Girard had Canada's other goal in the win.

Despite losing to Team USA in the round robin they gave the favoured Americans all they could handle.

Canada has not won a medal at the competition since winning gold in 2008.

Team USA meanwhile are the three-time defending champions and came into the tournament as gold medal favourites again this year.

Finland faces Sweden in the other semifinal Friday while the gold-medal game is set for Sunday.
