CALGARY – With the collar on his jacket tucked up high, eyes downcast, Mathew Dumba wore the look of disappointment.

“Yeah, very disappointing,” said Dumba, uttering no more than a handful of words.

The Minnesota Wild blueline prospect was one of eight cuts made early Thursday evening as Team Canada settled on a roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. Joining Dumba among the dismissed Canadian players were Frank Corrado, Laurent Brossoit, Daniel Catenacci, Mark McNeill, Ryan Sproul, Hunter Shinkaruk, and Tom Wilson.

“Obviously a lot of thoughts, disappointment's a big one,” noted Wilson quietly. “Really wanted to play for this team.”

Shaving their roster down to 23 players - 13 forwards, seven defencemen and three goaltenders - Team Canada landed on a high-end group that includes the likes of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mark Scheifele, Jonathan Huberdeau, Morgan Rielly and Ryan Strome. Also emerging from the brief three-day camp were Brett Ritchie, Ty Rattie, J.C. Lipon and a pair of 17-year-old teammates, the electric Halifax duo of Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin. Cut twice prior to the 2013 selection, Kitchener Rangers defenceman Ryan Murphy was selected to the junior team for the first time.

The biggest question mark entering the camp and extending right on through the week, the Canadian brass decided on Malcolm Subban, Jake Patterson and Jordan Binnington in the crease.
