VERNON, B.C. -- Vinny Post scored the winner at 15:32 of the third period as the Carleton Place Canadians edged the Vernon Vipers 3-2 on Saturday in preliminary action at the RBC Cup.
Dylan Gareau and Adam Lloyd also scored for the Canadians (1-0-0) while Luke Edwards tacked on two assists.
Colton Sparrow and Demico Hannoun supplied the scoring for the Vipers (0-1-0).
Carleton Place's Guillaume Therien kicked out 25 shots for the win as Vernon's Austin Smith allowed three goals on 29 shots.
The Canadians went 1 for 6 on the power play while the Vipers failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
In earlier preliminary action, Michael Stiliadis made 41 saves, including 16 in the final period, as the Dauphin Kings came from behind to defeat the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots 2-1.
Tanner Butler put the Kings (1-0-0) on the board at 7:57 of the third period to tie the game and Jesse Bernard scored the eventual with just 1:17 remaining in regulation.
Jacob Hayhurst gave the Patriots (0-1-0) a 1-0 lead early in the second period.
Toronto's Evan Buitenhuis turned aside 27-of-29 shots in a losing cause.
Both clubs went 0 for 3 on the power play.
