CALGARY -- Alex Carpenter forced overtime and then scored the shootout winner as the United States came from behind to beat Canada's under-22 national women's development team 3-2 on Sunday.

Shannon MacAulay gave Canada a 1-0 lead at 13:14 of the second period and then set up Meghan Dufault early in the third period to give the Canadians a two-goal advantage.

Hannah Brandt, however, responded for the Americans with a power-play goal at 18:02 and then Carpenter evened the game only 29 seconds later.

Canada's Ann-Renee Desbiens made 27 saves in defeat. Nicole Hensley stopped 12-of-14 shots for the Americans, who swept the three-game series while outscoring its opponent 11-3.

The Canadians went 2 for 9 on the power play. The United States scored once on nine chances with the man advantage.

Earlier, Marlene Boissonnault turned away 20-of-23 shots as Canada's women's under-18 team fell to the Americans 4-1.

Lindsay Agnew scored the lone goal for Canada, which won the first two games of the three-game set.
