Tom Wilson has emerged as an unlikely star of the Washington Capitals' first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he wasn't given the opportunity to play the hero again in Game 5.

Wilson took four penalties in the Capitals' 2-1 overtime win Friday night and did not see the ice again after his third-period high-sticking minor.

The 23-year-old was benched for the game's final five minutes and one-minute overtime by head coach Barry Trotz.

“I thought Tom had lots of energy, but you cannot take four penalties in a playoff game,” Trotz said, per CSN Mid-Atlantic. “So he didn’t see the ice after that last one.”

Wilson, a penalty killer for the Capitals, put his team down a man twice Friday as two of his penalties were offsetting minors with Maple Leaf players (Connor Carrick and Nazem Kadri).

He logged 10:16 of ice time on the night, down three minutes from each of the previous two games.

Wilson owns three goals in the first round series, including the overtime winner in Game 1. He's taken six penalties in the series.

The Maple Leafs went 0-for-4 on the power play Friday night.

Game 6 will take place Sunday night in Toronto.
