The 2016 season has been all about the quarterbacks and receivers for good reason, but this time the players in the backfield reminded everyone they can put up numbers as well.

Here is the best of Week Seven in TSN Fantasy Football, CFL Edition, presented by Moores.

Passers

Henry Burris, Ottawa – Last week, the 13-year veteran did not have the welcome back party he envisioned, which led to many questioning who should play under centre for the Redblacks this season. Going up against the reigning Grey Cup champions, Burris performed to the level that helped him win the Most Outstanding Player last year. He completed 26 of 39 passes for 341 yards, threw for two touchdowns and a pick.

Kevin Glenn, Montreal – The 14-year veteran had a solid night in Fantasy against a tough Lions defense, who came off a back-breaking loss to the Stamps in overtime. The pivot went 18 for 27 for 231 yards and a score, but he also took one to the house on his lone carry of the game. Glenn hasn’t scored a touchdown with his legs since Week Seven of 2014 when he played for BC.

Rushers

Jerome Messam, Calgary – The 254-pound back is known for his physical and rough running style that breaks down opposing defenses throughout a game. This past week against the Roughriders that style was on display. On 22 touches, he compiled a total of 145 yards and a score, which led all players’, even quarterbacks, in Fantasy points. The 31-year-old truly enjoys facing the team that traded him to the Stamps last year. In the matchup late last year, Messam ran for 121 yards on 15 carries.

Jeremiah Johnson, BC – In his first action since Week Two, the Oregon product showed Lions fans why they were excited about him coming into the season. Johnson put up a total of 114 yards and a touchdown on 17 opportunities in the win against Montreal. Similar to the quarterback controversy early on, head coach Wally Buono has a good problem in his backfield. Both Johnson and Allen Anthony have rushed for 194 yards in three starts.

Andrew Harris, Winnipeg – In a year that has been tough on tailbacks statistically, the Manitoba native has been the most consistent. He did not have the greatest day at the office putting up a total of 48 total yards on 20 touches and a score, but he hit double digits in Fantasy. The 29-year-old has had at least 10 Fantasy points in six of the seven games.

Receivers

Rob Bagg, Saskatchewan – Saskatchewan has young wide receivers, some of which have already impacted a game this campaign such as Naaman Roosevelt and Ricky Collins Jr. This week against Calgary it was the veteran that had himself a night. The Canadian hauled in four balls for 135 yards and a score. Before this contest, the Queen’s product hadn’t passed the century mark in a game since Week Six of 2014.

Emmanuel Arceneaux, BC – The team’s leading receiver the previous two years started slow out of the gate but has picked it up as of late. He caught a season-high seven balls for 70 yards and found the end zone for the first time since Week Two. The 28-year-old is getting into a groove now. The first three games saw him put up 14 grabs for 154 yards, compared to his last three games of 19 grabs for 281 yards.

Chris Williams, Ottawa – The speedy receiver who broke out to a record pace in the first three games hit a wall the following three games, but he did turn it around in Ottawa’s victory over Edmonton. The New Mexico State product made seven grabs for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Greg Ellingson, Ottawa – The wideout was experiencing a similar drought that his teammate Williams had prior to this week. In Week Four against the Argos, the Florida International product had 218 receiving yards, but only had 48 yards combined the next two games. The trend ended against the Eskimos when Ellingson caught six balls for 121 yards.

Terrence Toliver, Hamilton – The Tiger-Cats suffered a huge road loss to the Blue Bombers. Many things didn’t go right for the team especially in the first half, but the one bright spot was the LSU product’s career night. He matched a career high in seven catches for a career high 120 yards. The 6’5 receiver has all the tools to be a dominant force in the league, and this could be the start of something big in Hamilton.

Notes

Pivot Matt Nichols completed 23 of 31 throws for 246 yards and two scores in the Bombers second straight win over the Ticats. Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell completed 25 of 37 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown. It’s the fifth straight game he has thrown for over 300 yards, and 21st straight season game where he threw for a score. Als receiver Duron Carter recorded 115 receiving yards for the second straight game and running mate B.J. Cunningham put up 55 receiving yards and a score. Stamps Marquay McDaniel hauled in eight balls for 110 yards in the home win over Saskatchewan. Lions kicker Richie Leone hit 20 points in fantasy.
