Alouettes closing in on deal for DB White

The Montreal Alouettes are closing in on a deal for defensive back Mitchell White according to Joey Alfieri of TSN 690 Montreal. 

White spent the 2017 season with the Toronto Argonauts, recording 11 tackles over six games.

Argos close to signing All-Star DB TJ Heath

According to TSN's Dave Naylor, the Toronto Argonauts are close to signing defensive back TJ Heath. Heath, who has been an All-Star the past two seasons, played with the Argos for part of the 2016 season before being traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Redblacks close to signing DB Murray

Defensive back Rico Murray, who played the 2017 season in Toronto, is close to signing a contract with the Ottawa Redblacks, according to TSN's Dave Naylor.

Lions sign offensive lineman Greaves

The BC Lions have signed former Montreal Alouettes offensive lineman Chris Greaves to a contract for the 2018 season.

Stampeders sign national DL Mrabure

The Calgary Stampeders have signed national defensive lineman Ese Mrabure.

He played 16 games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2017, recording 17 tackles, two sacks, nine QB pressures and one fumble recovery.

Lions sign DB Jefferson

The B.C. Lions announced that they have signed international defensive back A.J. Jefferson who is entering his fourth CFL season. 

Last year, he appeared in two games with the Ottawa Redblacks, recording four tackles.

Alouettes add a trio of DBs

The Montreal Alouettes have signed defensive backs Tommie Campbell, Dominique Ellis and Joe Burnett according to Joey Alfieri of TSN 690 Montreal.

Davis lands in Calgary after five seasons in Hamilton

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive back Emanuel Davis after he spent the last five seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Prior to playing in six games last season, Davis was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016.

Lions sign former Eskimo Peters

The BC Lions announced that they have signed defensive back Garry Peters to a one-year contract.  

Peters spent the last two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos, appearing in 19 games and recording 59 defensive stops and eight more on special teams.

Roughriders sign FB Spencer Moore to a two-year deal

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced that they have signed Canadian fullback Spencer Moore to a two-year contract which will keep him with the team through 2019.

"Blessed and highly favored. #GANGGREEN on a mission. Thank you to family and friends who helped with this process! Let’s goooooo!!! #ridernation" Moore tweeted after the signing was announced.

Blue Bombers add international DB/cover linebacker Chandler Fenner

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers landed one of the top defenders available on the free agent market, signing cover linebacker Chandler Fenner to a two-year contract Tuesday.

Fenner had a breakout season for the BC Lions last year, finishing with 76 tackles, one sack, and one interception.

Redblacks add another defensive piece, sign DB Loucheiz Purifoy

The Redblacks announced they have signed DB Loucheiz Purifoy. The veteran DB joins defensive lineman AC Leonard as defensive upgrades for the Redblacks.

Purifoy has experience playing the cover linebacker spot. The 29-year-old had 49 tackles and three interceptions last year as a defensive back.

Lions add Cumming to defensive line

After adding two offensive linemen and a couple local products, the BC Lions made their biggest splash of the day so far, agreeing to terms with international defensive lineman Euclid Cummings. 

Cummings had 21 tackles and eight sacks in 16 games for the Edmonton Eskimos last season. The 26-year-old has played in 53 games over his four-year CFL career, split between the Eskimos, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Toronto Argonauts, and has 62 tackles and 19 sacks.

Lions land two UBC products

The BC Lions continued to do work Tuesday, landing two national products in linebacker Mitch Barnett and defensive back Dominque Termansen.

Both players were in the East Division last season with Barnett playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Termansen the Montreal Alouettes.

Blue Bombers sign Winnipeg-born RB Kienan LaFrance

Another Winnipegger coming home - Kienan LaFrance has signed a one-year contract," the Blue Bombers tweeted.

Campbell moving on from the Stampeders

One of the top available defensive backs, Tommie Campbell posted a note on social media saying he would not be back with Calgary Stampeders.

No word yet on where Campbell will land.

Stampeders sign national DB Berger

Adam Berger is staying put in Calgary.

The team announced that they have signed the Canadian defensive back and special teamer, who appeared in 17 games for the Stamps last season. 

β€œWe obviously are very familiar with Adam from his previous time here and we’re pleased to have him back,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel in a press release. β€œHe provides depth on defence and will also be a valuable addition to our special-teams units.”

Roughriders land Canadian DT Evans

Updating a previous report from TSN's Farhan Lalji saying the two sides were close to a deal, TSN's Dave Naylor confirmed Canadian defensive tackle Zack Evans has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Evans was one of the top Canadian defensive tackles available, and as Lalji noted, the youngest. The 27-year-old had 23 tackles and five sacks in 18 games for the Redblacks last season. Evans has spent the past four seasons in Ottawa after starting his CFL career with the Roughriders.

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday national receiver Seydou Junior Haidara will remain with the club as he has signed a new one-year deal.

Stampeders re-sign Mayo

The Calgary Stampeders aren't known to dip into free agency too much, especially early, but they did make a move Tuesday in re-signing international linebacker Deron Mayo.

Mayo played just one game for the Stamps last year because of a knee injury, but played five nearly-full seasons for the Stampeders prior to that.

In 87 career games with the Stampeders, the 29-year-old has 277 tackles and 14 sacks.

Redblacks get in on the action

The Ottawa Redblacks made their first signing of the free agency period, landing former Saskatchewan Roughriders international defensive lineman AC Leonard.

In 17 games for the Roughriders last season, Leonard had 33 tackles and five sacks. Leonard had some workouts in the NFL but with the signing in Ottawa is staying North of the Border.

After starting his career with the BC Lions, Leonard has spent the past two seasons in Saskatchewan, racking up 67 tackles and 10 sacks in 39 games.

Ticats go shopping, land national K/P Lirim Hajrullahu

An hour after locking up their two biggest pending free agents in national defensive tackle Ted Laurent and international linebacker Larry Dean, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats did some shopping on the open market.

The Tiger-Cats signed Canadian K/P Lirim Hajrullahu to a one-year contract.

The 27-year-old Hajrullahu spent the past two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and finished 47-58 in field goals last year on the Argos’ Grey Cup winning squad. Hajrullahu’s 101 punts went for an average of 44 yards.

For his four-year CFL career, split between the Argos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hajrullahu has gone 146-178 in field goals and has a 44.1-yard punting average.

Eskimos keep top Canadian talent, linebacker Adam Konar

One of the top national players available in free agency, linebacker Adam Konar, has decided to stay with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Konar is a ratio-busting talent when he is healthy. In 12 games last season, the 24-year-old finished with 59 tackles, two sacks, and one interception. 

Konar has played three seasons with the Eskimos but only suited up for 23 games. He has 63 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack in his career.

Roughriders release OT Derek Dennis, two others

While everyone else is looking to add, the Saskatchewan Roughriders subtracted some players from their roster Tuesday, one hour after the opening of free agency.

The most notable name was international offensive lineman Derek Dennis. Dennis was one of the biggest signings during last year's free agency, but he lost his left tackle position to Bruce Campbell this past season.

The Roughriders also released defensive lineman Antonio Longino and linebacker Glenn Love.

Demski heads home to Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed the top national receiver available in free agency, Winnipeg-born Nic Demski.

Demski looked to be midway through a breakout season last year with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before missing the second half with an injury. The 24-year-old finished last year with 19 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown. Demski has spent three seasons with the Roughriders after being drafted by the team in the first round in 2015, and has 69 career receptions for 725 yards and three touchdowns.

Bazzie heads to Eskimos

The Edmonton Eskimos have landed one of the top pass rushers on the market, announcing they have signed former BC Lions defensive end Alex Bazzie to a two-year contract.

Bazzie played in just six games for the Lions last season but still finished with three sacks. The 27-year-old has spent his entire four year CFL career with the Lions up to this point and has 32 sacks in 56 games, twice reaching double digits in a single season.

Figueroa to the Lions

The BC Lions have signed international offensive lineman Joel Figueroa, the team announced Tuesday.

β€œJoel brings a level of physicality and the kind of gritty attitude that we need to add to our offensive line,” GM Ed Hervey said in a team statement. β€œHe’s absolutely committed to doing everything it takes to protect the quarterback.”    

Figueroa played the last two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos after starting his career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Tiger-Cats lock up Laurent, Dean ahead of free agency

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have locked up their two biggest free agents, and possibly the league's two biggest free agents, right before the deadline in announcing the team has signed national defensive tackle Ted Laurent and international linebacker Larry Dean.

Laurent played just 12 games last year, battling injury, but still finished with 13 tackles and four sacks. For his career, the Mississippi product has 150 tackles and 35 sacks in 110 games split between the Ticats and Edmonton Eskimos. His new deal with the Ticats is for two seasons.

Dean was an East Division All-Star this past this, was named Hamilton's Most Outstaning Player and Most Oustanding Defensive Player last season.

He posted 96 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery last season. Dean has appeared in 36 games with the Ticats since 2016 and owns 174 tackles with five sacks and one interception.

TSN's Farhan Lalji reported Laurent's deal is around $200 thousand and could hit $220 thousand with incentives.

Eskimos re-sign two in the secondary

The Edmonton Eskimos re-signed a pair of internationals in cornerback Johnny Adams and Forrest Hightower.

Adams was third on the club in tackles in 2017 with 65. A product of Michigan State, Adams has 174 defensive tackles, nine picks and one touchdown in 42 games over four seasons.

Hightower appeared in 10 games, recording 21 tackles and an interception. He was a member of the Ottawa Redblacks team that won the Grey Cup in 2010.

According to Dave Campbell of Edmonton radio station 630 CHED, it is a two-year deal for Adams and a one-year deal for Hightower.

Als lock up quartet

The Montreal Alouettes announced the re-signing of four players in international kicker Boris Bede, national defensive back Tevaughn Campbell, national offensive lineman Matt Vonk and international offensive lineman Xavier Fulton. Bede, Vonk and Fulton are locked up for 2018, while Campbell signed a two-year deal.

Bede, 28, returns to the Als for a fourth season. A native of Toulon, France, Bede made 29 of 35 field goals in 2017 and was 18 for 20 on converts.

A former member of Canada's rugby sevens team, Campbell came to the Als in August. He started nine games for the team, making 13 defensive tackles and one interception, as well as three special teams tackles.

Vonk, 27, came over to the Als in June from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a deal for wide receiver Denzel Radford. Before a knee injury ended his season in August, the native of Burlington, Ont.,  played in nine games for the Als.

Fulton joined the Als in September and appeared in five games. He was a fifth-round selection of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009.

Finch staying in Calgary

The Calgary Stampeders locked up one of their top pending free agents ahead of the market opening in running back and kick returner Roy Finch.

Finch was named the league's Most Outstanding Special Teams Player last season after returning 26 kickoffs for 696 yards and 73 punt returns for 1,200 yards, a team record, and three touchdowns in just 13 games.

Finch, also named a league All-Star last season, also contributed on offence, rushing for 114 yards on 21 carries and adding 18 receptions for 133 yards.

Roughriders keep Clark from reaching free agency

One of the top pending free agent offensive lineman will not make it to free agency, with the Saskatchewan Roughriders announcing they have re-signed national centre Dan Clark to a two-year contract, hours before he was set to hit the open market.

The 29-year-old Clark has spent his entire five-year CFL career with the Roughriders, playing in 79 career regular season games.

Ticats re-sign national linebacker Nick Shortill

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Tuesday the team has locked up national linebacker and special teamer Nick Shortill, hours before he was set to become a free agent.

Shortill signed a two-year contract to stay in Hamilton.

Argonauts re-sign veteran DB Johnny Sears, Gabriel

The Argonauts announced Tuesday before free agency they have signed international DB Johnny Sears to a one-year contract extension.

Sears had 28 tackles and an interception in seven starts for the Argos last season.

β€œJohnny was an impact player whenever he touched the field for us in 2017 and we look forward to having him back onboard for the upcoming season,” Argos GM Jim Popp said in a team statement.

And while the team hasn't made it official, TSN's Dave Naylor reported the team has also re-signed defensive back Jermaine Gabriel.

Gabriel, a national, played in 12 games for the Argos last season, finishing with 25 tackles and an interception. The Scarborough, Ont., native has played all five years of his CFL career with the Double Blue, and has 158 tackles, five sacks, and two interceptions in 72 career games.

Naylor added middle linebacker Bear Woods, one of the top pending free agents on the market, is expected to test free agency.
