The Montreal Alouettes signed Demetris Bendross for one year plus an option on Monday and expect the veteran receiver at training camp in May.
Demetris Bendross is a 29-year-old receiver and specialist who has five years of CFL experience. He started his career in 2000 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and started 35 of the 37 games he played with that organization. He then went to the Ottawa Renegades in 2003 and 2004 after a brief stint with the Toronto Argonauts. Over his 73-game CFL career, he caught 214 passes for 3,289 yards and 26 touchdowns. On special teams, he returned 92 kickoffs for 2040 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Alouettes also added a running back and a cornerback to the roster for the upcoming training camp. Sultan McCullough and Keeyon Howard both signed one-year deals plus an option.
Sultan McCullough is a running back who played with the Cleveland Browns last season. In 2003 and 2004, he was part of the Washington Redskins' organization and played one game. The 25-year-old was dominant throughout his college career at USC where he gained 2,800 rushing yards on 611 carries and scored 20 touchdowns.
Keeyon Howard is a cornerback from Central Methodist University who led the league with 13 interceptions for 140 yards in 11 games in 2004, his last college season. He also knocked down 17 passes and totalled 36 tackles. Howard excelled on special teams, as he returned 29 punts for 342 yards.
