The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed veteran Canadian punter Duncan O'Mahony to fill the shoes of Troy Westwood, who was released on Sunday.
The University of British Columbia product has spent time with the Calgary Stampeders, B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos during a seven-year CFL career. He won a Grey Cup as a rookie with Calgary in 2001.
This will be O'Mahony's second go-round with the Blue Bombers, after signing with the club prior to the 2006 season. But he mysteriously disappeared on his way from B.C. to Winnipeg to attend training camp. He later resurfaced, citing personal reasons for his absence and apologized to the organization. He was released by the club shortly after.
He is expected to be on the practice field in Winnipeg on Tuesday. He will compete with import kickers Alexis Serna and Brian Monroe.
