The 2009 Grey Cup Festival is happy to announce along with premier sponsor, Canada Safeway Limited that they are bringing back the Grey Cup Festival Parade to Calgary for this year's celebration and are calling for parade entries for this year's historic event.

"We are extremely excited about hosting and sponsoring the Safeway Grey Cup Festival Parade this year," said Chuck Mulvenna, President and COO of Canada Safeway Limited. "The Grey Cup is all about tradition and what better way to celebrate than to have the Grey Cup Parade return to the city that started it all in 1948".

The Parade will be held Saturday November 28, 2009 with an 11:00 am start time and will wind through the downtown streets of Calgary to celebrate the 97th Grey Cup Championship and the 2009 Grey Cup Festival.

"The Grey Cup Festival originally started back in 1948 with the Calgary Stampeders' fans celebrating in Toronto and then bringing the party back to Calgary to mark their Grey Cup victory," said Malcolm Kirk, Chairman of the 2009 Grey Cup Festival. "The Safeway Grey Cup Parade will revive a great tradition of taking Canada's biggest football celebration to the streets."

The 2009 Grey Cup Festival is currently welcoming community and cultural groups and organizations from across the country to get together and create a parade entry. Great crowds are anticipated.

To submit an application, visit www.2009greycupfestival.com where the parade application is available for download. Deadline for entries to be considered is October 1st.
