The 2009 Grey Cup Festival together with title sponsor Sport Chek, the official broadcaster of the 2009 Grey Cup Championship TSN, the Calgary Flames, and the Calgary Stampeders released plans today to host a Grey Cup family viewing party at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Sunday, November 29th.
”We are extremely proud to support the Grey Cup Family Viewing Party and provide our customers with access to a true Canadian experience. Cheering together with family, friends and neighbours is what makes our Canadian spirit thrive,” comments Mark Hindman, Vice President Corporate Marketing of The Forzani Group Ltd. “We encourage all fans to stop into a Sport Chek to get their ultimate party ticket while proudly supporting the Calgary Food Bank”.
The Sport Chek Grey Cup Family Viewing Party presented by TSN, the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders will be held at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Sunday, November 29th with doors opening to families, kids and CFL fans at 3:00 PM, an hour and a half prior to kick off of the 97th Grey Cup Championship. The viewing party and interactive zone will allow everyone who does not have a ticket to the 2009 Grey Cup Championship to cheer on the teams and witness the game on the big screen at the Pengrowth Saddledome complete with football activities on the floor.
“Our organizing committee felt it was important to give back to the Calgary community and together with our partners are pleased to add an additional event to our Grey Cup Festival with the Sport Chek Family Viewing party,” said Malcolm Kirk, chairman of the 2009 Grey Cup Festival. “A significant portion of the proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a truck load of food, which will be donated to the Calgary Food Bank as the holiday season draws near”.
”This is an incredible show of support for the food bank from the 2009 Grey Cup Festival and their partners at a time when the recession continues to drive people to us for food,” said James McAra, CEO of the Calgary Food Bank. “40% more people (35,000 more) have come to us for food since September 2008. We are able to meet this need because of the generosity of our community – volunteers, food and fund donors – who donate to help meet the immediate needs of those most at risk in our community.”
Tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m. (MST) on November 9th and will be sold at all Calgary Sport Chek and Canada Safeway locations and are only $10 per person. Patrons are encouraged to bring their families and kids to the event as interactive games will be set up on the floor of the Saddledome before and during the broadcast of the 97th Grey Cup Championship.
A portion of the event proceeds will be used by the 2009 Grey Cup Festival to purchase a truck load of food which will be donated to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank.
