It could be a real Western style shootout this weekend in Calgary as the league's two most potent attacks square off for CFL supremacy.
After losing out in the big game last year, Anthony Calvillo and the Montreal Alouettes ran roughshod over the league this year, compiling a league best 15-3 record and bullying their way into their fourth Grey Cup appearance in the last five years.
Meanwhile the Saskatchewan Roughriders return to the premiere showcase of three-down football after a one-year hiatus. The Riders will be looking for their second Grey Cup championship in the last three years.
While the Montreal Alouettes led the league in nearly every offensive category this season (points scored, most TD's, first downs, Time of possession), the Riders were a strong second in several key statistical categories.
Should the game come down to defence, the ‘Larks hold a definite statistical advantage as they have allowed the fewest yards rusing, passing as well as a league low 18 points per game. To put that in perspective the Green Riders allowed more than a touchdown more per game.
Where Saskatchewan may hold the advantage is in the categories that can't be analyzed statistically, namely intangibles. No fans in the CFL travel better than those of the Roughriders. With a relatively short trek to Calgary, McMahon Stadium could likely be a sea of green on Sunday.
It's an irresistible force against an immovable object. So, who ya got?
Our question for you this week is very simple. Who will win the 97th Grey Cup – the Montreal Alouettes or the Saskatchewan Roughriders?
