Brendan Taman, Saskatchewan's general manager, said the team's new coach needs to be somebody who understands the market and I think the top three candidates for this job all do.
One would be Doug Berry, who was the offensive coordinator of the Saskatchewan Roughriders this past season, and has head coaching experience in Winnipeg, where he worked with Taman.
Another one is Ritchie Hall, of course a long time defensive coordinator for the Roughriders. He remains extremely popular in that market even though he was the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos the past two seasons. He has a close relationship with Ken Miller, the Roughriders former head coach who is now vice-president of football operations and will ultimately make the call on this one.
And another candidate, I think, could be Greg Marshall, the defensive coordinator of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He spent six years as an assistant in Saskatchewan during the 1990s, and worked with Taman in Winnipeg.
Those three, I think, round out the top of the list that the Roughriders will look at to fill the head coaching position.
