One quarterback's setback is an opportunity for a Canadian.
The Calgary Stampeders won't know the results of an MRI on back-up quarterback Drew Tate until Sunday but he's out for Week 1, meaning former Ottawa University quarterback Brad Sinopoli becomes Henry Burris' back-up, at least until another quarterback is brought in.
Sinopoli was drafted by the Stampeders in the fourth round in hopes of becoming a rare commodity, a Canadian quarterback on a CFL roster.
Queen's University product Danny Brannagan was released earlier this week by the Toronto Argonauts.
The Stampeders open the regular season at home against the Argonauts on Wendy's Friday Night Football (TSN, 9pm et/6pm pt).
