BC Lions cornerback and three-time divisional all-star Davis Sanchez announced his retirement from the game on Monday.

Sanchez enjoyed an outstanding CFL career that spanned 155 games over 11 seasons with four different clubs. He recorded a total of 28 interceptions and was an East Division All-Star three times, an CFL All-Star in 2000, and was named the East's Outstanding Canadian that year.

"Many thanks to all of the great teammates, coaches, fans and people I have met throughout my career in the CFL," said Sanchez. "A very special thanks to both the Alouettes and Lions organizations. I am going to miss this league, but that being said, I feel so fortunate to have had it be such a huge part of my life thus far."

Originally coming to the Lions as a free agent in 2010, the Delta, BC, native appeared in 20 regular season games over two seasons.

"Davis was a valued leader during his time with us and we wish him the very best moving forward," Lions vice president and general manager Wally Buono said.

Davis also enjoyed a brief NFL stint with San Diego in 2001 and recorded 19 tackles for the Chargers over 16 games. He played four games for San Diego in 2002 and returned to the CFL for good in 2003 with Calgary. He was part of championship teams in Edmonton in 2005, Montreal in 2008 and 2009, and BC in 2011.
