With Steven Jyles and Kerry Joseph still deadling with nagging injuries, it appears Matt Nichols will make his first start at quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday.

Head coach Kavis Reed said that it is highly likely that Nichols will be behind centre when the Eskimos take on the Stampeders in Calgary (TSN at 10pm et/7pm pt).

Jyles, who has missed some games due to a knee injury, took some big hits in last week's game while Joseph has been hampered with a calf injury.

Nichols joined the Eskimos' practice roster as a free agent late in the 2010 campaign and spent most of the 2011 season on the injured list.

This season, the Eastern Washington product has dressed as the third-string quarterback for all 12 games and held for field goal attempts.
