HAMILTON, Ont. -- Dennis McPhee is back for his third tour of duty with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

McPhee was one of three assistants Kent Austin, Hamilton's vice-president of football operations, GM and head coach, added to his staff Thursday. The Ticats also announced they weren't renewing the contract of player-personnel director Joe Womack.

McPhee will coach Hamilton's defensive linemen. He served as a defensive assistant coach from 1995 to 2001, then from 2004 to '06. Over that span, McPhee coached linebackers, the defensive line and defensive front.

McPhee also has Canadian university coaching experience, serving as a head coach at Waterloo and St. Francis Xavier as well as defensive co-ordinator at Western and McMaster.

McPhee spent five seasons as the Warriors' head coach but stepped down in 2011 following a drug scandal that rocked the university. McPhee was cleared of any wrongdoing but the school suspended the program for one year following the 2010 season.

McPhee amassed a record of 7-25 at Waterloo.

The Ticats also hired Allen Rudolph as an offensive line coach and John Zamberlin as linebackers coach. Zamberlin coached linebackers last year on former head coach George Cortez's staff.
