EDMONTON - A former defensive lineman for the CFL Edmonton Eskimos has been sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault and careless storage of a firearm.

The charges against Adam Braidwood stemmed from a domestic dispute in November 2010 that involved his girlfriend.

Court heard Braidwood was on several drugs at the time.

Braidwood played for the Eskimos for parts of five seasons between 2006 and 2010.

He registered 64 tackles, 12 sacks and scored a touchdown in 46 CFL career games.
