The Toronto Argonauts signed 2011 first round pick Tyler Holmes on Tuesday and released offensive lineman Joel Reinders.
Holmes, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings before the NFL season, was on the field for practice on Tuesday.
"Tyler is a talented young lineman we traded into the first round to select in the 2011 draft," said Argonauts general manager Jim Barker. "We believe he has the physical tools to develop into a very good offensive tackle one day and we are excited to have him join our team."
Reinders, who was drafted by the Argonauts in the fourth round of the 2010 CFL Draft, signed with the NFL's Cleveland Browns prior to the draft and had a short stint with the New York Giants.
Head coach Scott Milanovich said running back Chad Kackert is day-to-day with a concussion, adding the status of Kackert and receiver Chad Owens (ribs) will be determined as the week goes on.
Kackert has gone through concussion protocols well, but Milanovich wants to see how he handles practice this week. He called the hit on Kackert helmet-to-helmet, but had no idea he could challenge the turnover after the hit. The Argonauts did not ask the league to review the hit.
Kackert has gone through concussion protocols well, but Milanovich just wants to see how he handles practice this week.
Quarterback Ricky Ray (shoulder) said rehab is "fine" and timeline for throwing is "one-to-two weeks." Milanovich said linebacker Robert McCune should be fine to play this week.
