The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed two import players; defensive back Gabe Loper from South Alabama and linebacker Kenny Tate from Maryland.
Details of the agreements are not disclosed.
Loper played 2011 and 2012 on the defensive side of the ball, racking up 52 tackles with three interceptions and three broken up passes. The 23 year-old also played some wide receiver in 2013 with South Alabama.
Tate had a five-year career at Maryland, where he played a variety of positions on defence and was a first-team all-ACC selection following his junior season. That year, he recorded 100 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions while being a real force on defence.
In the 2011 season, he racked up 35 tackles and two interceptions in the first four games, before suffering an injury. His senior season saw him record 42 tackles, 6.5 for loss, and four quarterback sacks, after missing the first three games. The 23 year-old played in two Bowl games during his tenure – the 2008 Humanitarian Bowl, and the 2010 Military Bowl.
