The B.C. Lions announced on Monday that the team had come to terms with veteran quarterback Steven Jyles.

"Steven has a lot of experience in our league as both a starter and a back-up and we expect him to provide a significant level of competition for the quarterbacks we have under contract," said Lions general manager and vice president of football operations, Wally Buono, in a statement.

Jyles sat out the 2013 season after starting in nine games for the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2012 season. The 31-year-old Louisiana-Monroe product came into the league in 2006 with the Eskimos and also spent time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts. In 2010 as a Bomber, Jyles led the CFL with a 100.9 passer rating and set a personal best with 19 TD passes. He is expected to back up Travis Lulay.
