REGINA -- In a province where football fans are said to bleed green, some are seeing red over the Saskatchewan Roughriders' new retro jerseys.

The red and black retro jerseys were unveiled Tuesday as part of the Roughriders centennial celebrations.

Rider president Jim Hopson says he knows Saskatchewan has diehard green and white fans, but the red and black jerseys are a good way to pay tribute to the past.

The red and black jerseys were worn by the Roughriders from 1912 to 1947.

Some fans on the team's website were critical of the choice even before the jersey was unveiled, quoting a Riders song that says "green is the colour."

The Riders will sport the centennial jerseys on July 17 when they play Edmonton at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
