The Calgary Stampeders have named Rick Campbell the team's new defensive co-ordinator.

Campbell will take over the position vacated by Dave Walkosky, who resigned earlier this week to become the special teams co-ordinator at Georgia Tech.

"When we promoted Dave from linebackers coach to defensive co-ordinator in December, Rick Campbell was very high on my list of candidates for the co-ordinator position," said John Hufnagel, Stampeders head coach and general manager. "It was a difficult decision at the time but Dave allowed us to have continuity and grow our staff from within.

"But Rick is just one year removed from our organization, having been our running backs coach in 2010, and also brings a good degree of continuity. I really appreciate the fact that Edmonton allowed us the opportunity to talk to Rick again."

Campbell spent 1999-2008 with the  Eskimos in the roles of special teams and linebackers coach, defensive secondary and special teams coach and defensive co-ordinator. In 2009, he became Winnipeg's defensive backs and special teams co-ordinator. He joined the Stampeders for the 2010 season.

"Rick is a well-respected coach," said Hufnagel. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and has a great deal of experience in all three phases of the game."

Walkosky was named the Stamps' defensive coordinator on Dec. 23, 2011 following his first season in the CFL as the Stamps' linebackers coach. Prior to his time with the Stamps, Walkosky was head coach at Tiffin University in Ohio for three years.
