Buck Pierce will have wait another week to get back on the field with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Joey Elliott will make his fifth straight start at quarterback when the Blue Bombers visit the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.

Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke would like to give Pierce more time to prepare before putting him back behind centre.

"He hasn't had enough reps," Burke told reporters on Monday. "As far as health goes, he could play. We want to have the best people out there we can. But it's just not fair to Buck to put him in that situation, with one day of preparation to try to go out there and get us a W. The best thing for him and the team is one more week."

Pierce has missed the last seven games with a tendon injury on his left foot.

Elliott's only win as a starter this season came in Week 8 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but in the last three weeks, he has struggled as the pivot, having not thrown a touchdown pass in three losses. He has two thrown for majors and three interceptions while completing just under 60% of his passes this year.

Alex Brink, who is 1-2 as a starter with three touchdowns and four interceptions this season, is also available to play on Friday.
