WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed non-import offensive lineman Paul Swiston to a contract extension.

"Paul is a bright young player with tremendous upside who has done a great job this season at doing everything he has been asked of," general manager Joe Mack said Monday in a release.

"He has a great attitude and works extremely hard. We're confident he will be a solid player for us in the coming years."

The hulking 23-year-old Calgary native was selected by the Blue Bombers in the fourth round of last year's CFL Draft. The six-foot-nine 317-pounder spent last season on the injured list.

Swiston made his first pro start at right tackle in Winnipeg's regular-season opener against the B.C. Lions. He has dressed in every game this season.

"I am very happy to have signed this extension," Swiston said. "Winnipeg is a great place to play football and the Blue Bombers are a great organization for me to continue to develop until I can one day become a full-time starter for this team."
