Buck Pierce will not be in the lineup when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Alouettes in Montreal on Monday.

Pierce suffered a concussion last week after taking a violent hit from Toronto Argonauts linebacker Brandon Isaac. Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke said the decision to keep Pierce out of the lineup was based on "collaboration of data from our medical people'.

Joey Elliott, who shared first-team reps with Alex Brink at practice on Thursday, will get the start at quarterback for the Blue Bombers.

Isaac, who received a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty for his hit on Pierce, was fined by the league for the play on Wednesday.

Pierce left the game after the hit, returned for a short stint before half-time but did not return for the second half.

Pierce called the hit a cheap shot but Argonauts defensive captain Jordan Younger defended Isaac's hit when talking to reporters on Wednesday.

"You got a guy like Buck Pierce, who, unfortunately, goes down often," said Younger. "He has concussion issues and maybe he has some decisions to make, but we see it as a clean hit."
