MONTREAL -- Backup Adrian McPherson will start at quarterback this weekend to give Anthony Calvillo a rest when the Montreal Alouettes close out the CFL regular season in Winnipeg on Saturday.

The Alouettes (11-6), who have locked up first place in the CFL East Division, announced their plans on Tuesday.

McPherson completed only two of five passes for two yards this season, but one was for a touchdown.

However, the 29-year-old who is sent in for short-yardage situations gained 72 yards on 28 carries. His eight touchdowns is second on the team to injured tailback Brandon Whitaker's nine.

The 40-year-old Calvillo passed the 5,000-yard mark in passing for a CFL record seventh time in Montreal's 27-25 win over Edmonton on Sunday.

The Alouettes will host the East final on Nov. 18 at Olympic Stadium.
