MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes have rewarded non-import offensive lineman Ryan Bomben for his breakout season, signing the third-year guard to a contract extension.

The six-foot-four 300-pounder from Burlington, Ont., also lined up as a tight end and played on special teams on occasion this past year. He scored his first CFL touchdown in Week 18 with a five-yard catch in a win over Edmonton.

Bomben, 25, dressed in all 18 regular-season games for the second straight season in 2012. His new contract is a three-year deal.

"Ryan is one of the most versatile big men in the CFL," said Alouettes general manager Jim Popp. "As you can see we have used him in a variety of ways. The sky is the limit and he has the potential to be a dominating player."

The Alouettes' offence led the league in touchdowns and the offensive line allowed just 30 sacks, tied for fewest in the league.

Montreal selected Bomben in the fourth round (No. 31 overall) of the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft. He won a Grey Cup in his first season with the team that year.

The Alouettes also announced Friday that quality control coach Brendan Nugent's contract would be extended for the 2013 season.
