Should the Alouettes re-sign QB McPherson?

The Rouge takes a look at each team and poses their biggest question heading into the off-season. Today, the Montreal Alouettes.

It may not look it at first glance, but the Montreal Alouettes have a bit of a tricky situation at the QB position to figure out this off-season.

Anthony Calvillo hasn't yet decided whether he'll return for 2013, but the hope is he saddles up for at least one more season.

That's the good news. The tricky part concerns their long-term future. Adrian McPherson has long now been considered the heir apparent to Calvillo, but he can become a free agent this winter and may jump at the chance to be a starting QB sooner (with another team) than later (with the Als, after Calvillo retires.)

GM Jim Popp's hands may be tied. Montreal can't, and surely doesn't want to move on from Calvillo before he's ready to call it quits. At 40-years-old, Calvillo proved he's still got it with a 2012 season that saw him throw for more than 5,000 yards and 31 touchdowns.

The Als have to know that Calvillo's career is nearing the finish line however, and after developing McPherson the first five years of his CFL career, it would have to hurt seeing him succeed as a starter somewhere else.

Montreal hasn't had to worry about their starting QB for a very long time – longer than any other team in the league. Will they find a way to continue that streak this off-season, or could it ultimately now be out of their hands?

The Rouge asks: How should the Alouettes handle McPherson this off-season?

As always, it's Your! Call.
