WINNIPEG -- The 2013 CFL free-agency pool won't include Jonathan Hefney.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed the all-star defensive back Friday. The five-foot-nine, 190-pound Hefney was slated to become a CFL free agent next month.

"As a key member of our defence, it was important for us to re-sign Jonathan who has been a consistent performer throughout his career in Winnipeg," Bombers general manager Joe Mack said in a statement. "The way Jonathan plays the game, the type of enthusiasm and excitement he brings to the field, certainly rubs off on the rest of his teammates and his experience is one we value as an organization."

Hefney had a team-high 74 tackles last season and was an East Division all-star for the third time. He also registered four fumble recoveries, a sack and one interception while playing in the secondary and linebacker this season for the Bombers.

Hefhey has spent four seasons in Winnipeg, recording 241 tackles, 13 more on special teams, two sacks, 13 interceptions and six fumble recoveries.
