You can add Marc Trestman to the list of personnel the Montreal Alouettes will need to replace, a list that could also soon include assistant GM Marcel Desjardins.

But one piece that should be sticking around - and the good news for Als fans is he's the most important piece - is general manager, Jim Popp.

“I've (talked to) three different teams this off-season but things have not materialized where I've gotten a job and I don't really expect to,” Popp told Cybulski and Company on TSN Radio 1050.

“Most of these (GM) jobs are closing up and at this stage it doesn't look like anything's going to happen. Never say never, but I'm more likely to be with the Alouettes for 2013.”

Popp's immediate task will be finding a new head coach to replace Trestman, who accepted the Chicago Bears head coaching position on Wednesday.

“We're going to have to have a rebuilding year within the coaching confines,” said Popp. “We have an excellent group of players and support staff and we'll have to go out and hire a new coaching staff like we did in 2002 and 2007.

“We'll have to try and find somebody else who can keep us in the playoffs and win, and we'll do our best to do that.”

Popp said that while having a coach jump to the NFL is rare, losing one to another team isn't anything he hasn't dealt with before.

“This is something that's been happening to our organization. We've lost a lot of different coaches and players to teams within our own league or to the NFL. When you have a successful franchise, this is the kind of thing that takes place.”
