The CFL free agency period kicked off with a bang Friday, as the Edmonton Eskimos announced the signing of former CFL All-Star Odell Willis, the first deal announced after free agency opened.

Willis spent last year with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, picking up six sacks and 23 tackles. The season prior Willis tied for the league lead with 13 sacks with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' Swaggerville defence.

The Mayor has amassed 40 sacks and 101 tackles in four seasons in the CFL.

"Odell is a proven, perennial, prolific pass-rusher," Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed said in a team release announcing the signing.

Later on Friday the Eskimos also signed former Hamilton Tiger-Cats DB Marcell Young. In two years with Hamilton Young recorded 64 tackles and three interceptions.

"Marcell is a talented a defensive back that is starting to reach the peak of his career," Reed said in a team statement.
