The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continue to make moves with an eye towards improving their defence from a year ago, the latest one coming with a certain amount of risk however.

Hamilton announced the signing of former free agent LB Marcellus Bowman on Sunday. Bowman spent the past three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he registered a total of 153 tackles, nine sacks, and two interceptions.

Last year the 26-year-old picked up 52 tackles, two sacks and one interception.

The risk has to do with Bowman suffering an apparent knee injury this off-season, which required major surgery according to a report in the Winnipeg Free Press.

It's unclear how long Bowman's rehab will take, but the Tiger-Cats decided still to sign the Boston College product.

"Marcellus is an extremely talented player and a game-changer on defence. We're well aware that he recently underwent a medical procedure but feel comfortable making this signing after consulting with our doctors. Our medical staff will work closely with Marcellus to ensure he returns to the field at 100% as soon as possible. We're very excited to have Marcellus on board," Vice President of Football Operations, General Manager and Head Coach Kent Austin said in a team statement.

Bowman joins fellow free agents Shomari Williams, Brian Bulcke, Evan McCollough, and Deon Beasley in signing with the Ticats this off-season.
