It appears that the Montreal Alouettes will have to make do without Brandon Whitaker for several games.

Mathieu Proulx of RDS reports that Whitaker will miss 3-4 weeks with a shoulder injury.

The team also announced on Friday that linebacker Jordan Verone has been placed on the nine-game injured list with an injured knee.

Whitaker was hurt during Montreal's final offensive possession during their win over the Edmonton Eskimos last Thursday. He left the game but came out to watch Edmonton's final unsuccessful drive.

When Whitaker spoke to the media immediately after the game he didn't indicate an issue with the shoulder when asked about it.

The 27-year-old running back has gained 279 yards on 53 rushes for two touchdowns this season.

In Whitaker's place Jerome Messam took reps at running back on Friday at Alouettes practice. Stephen Lumbala is most likely to be the back-up.
