USA Hockey announced on Tuesday that Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis are the three finalists to host the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship.
Chicago and Tampa were cut from the running, with a winning city expected to be announced by the end of the year.
"We look forward to this next step in our selection process," said Mike Bertsch, assistant executive director of marketing, communications and events for USA Hockey in a release. "It was extremely difficult to get down to three. All five of the cities we were considering made a compelling case."
Buffalo was the World Junior host for the 2011 event, while the other cities have never hosted the under-20 showcase.
The 2016 World Juniors will be held in Finland while the 2017 event will again be split between Montreal and Toronto.
