LEVERKUSEN, Germany — Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez will miss its Bundesliga opener against Borussia Moenchengladbach after breaking his right hand in a fall in his apartment.

Leverkusen says the Mexico striker fell on Monday evening and had surgery on Tuesday.

Hernandez scored 17 goals in 28 Bundesliga matches last season.

Also missing from Saturday's opener at Moenchengladbach will be Lars Bender, who injured his right ankle in the Olympics final loss to Brazil.
