QMJHL: Haddad, Cape Breton top Lewiston

Joey Haddad scored two goals and added an assist as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles edged the Lewiston Maineiacs 5-3 in a first-round playoff preview.

Cape Breton (40-24-3-3) jumped out to an early first-period lead on Dean Ouellet's 43rd goal of the season. Chris Tutalo evened the score a little over three minutes later, but Haddad and Alex Lamontagne sent the Screaming Eagles to the intermission with a 3-1 lead.

Stefano Giliati scored the only goal of the second period for Lewiston (37-26-5-2) to cut the lead to one, and 1:36 into the third the Maineiacs tied the game through Matt Bourdeau's third goal of the season.

But Nick MacNeil and Haddad scored in a 1:35 span to give the Screaming Eagles the victory.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Acadie-Bathurst 3 St. John's 2; Chicoutimi 8 Quebec 1; Saint John 4 Halifax 3; P.E.I. 3 Moncton 2 (OT); Shawinigan 4 Drummondville 2; Gatineau 3 Val-d'Or 1; Rouyn-Noranda 4 Victoriaville 0; and Baie-Comeau 4 Rimouski 3.

At Sydney, N.S., Marek Benda and Olivier Roy combined to stop 22 shots for Cape Breton, while Jonathan Bernier and Kirk Rafuse combined to stop 31 shots for Lewiston.

Titan 3 Fog Devils 2

At St. John's, N.L., Tomas Svoboda scored a goal and added an assist as the Titan edged the Fog Devils in a first-round playoff preview.

Tomy Joly and Eric Faille also counted for Acadie-Bathurst (41-25-2-2).

Wesley Welcher and Phil Mangan replied for St. John's (32-30-1-7), which hosted its final regular-season game.

Nicolas Champion made 27 saves for the Titan, while Timo Pielmeier turned away 26 shots for the Fog Devils.

Sagueneens 8 Remparts 1

At Quebec, Luc-Olivier Blain scored a hat trick as the Sagueneens thrashed the Remparts.

Mathieu Bolduc, Jacob Lagace, Antoine Roussel, Matthew Whitaker and Joel Champagne counted singles for Chicoutimi (37-25-2-6). Sebastien Rioux chipped in with four helpers.

Felix Petit scored the lone goal for Quebec (38-28-1-3).

The teams will play each other in the first round of the playoffs.

Nadeau, Bobby made 27 saves for the Sagueneens, while Jonathan Roy and Kevin Desfosses combined to stop 30 shots for the Remparts.

Sea Dogs 4 Mooseheads 3

At Halifax, Ryan Sparling scored a goal and added an assist as the Sea Dogs edged the Mooseheads.

Alexandre Picard-Hooper, Francois Gauthier and Scott Howes also counted for Saint John (41-22-4-3), which will face P.E.I. in the opening round of the playoffs.

Ben MacAskill, Bryce Swan and Peter-James Corsi replied for Halifax (42-23-0-5), which tangles with Victoriaville in the first round.

Robert Mayer made 22 saves for the Sea Dogs, while Pier-Olivier Pelletier turned away 25 shots for the Mooseheads.

Rocket 3 Wildcats 2 (OT)

At Charlottetown, Mathieu Tousignant scored a pair, including the overtime winner, as the Rocket edged the Wildcats.

Chris Doyle also counted for P.E.I. (30-36-2-2).

Chris Morehouse and Jesse Biduke replied for Moncton (21-34-5-10), which missed the post-season.

Antoine Lafleur made 28 saves for the Rocket, while Nicola Riopel turned away 35 shots for the Wildcats.

Cataractes 4 Voltigeurs 2

At Shawinigan, Que., Patrick Bernier and Adam Bourque-Leblanc both scored a goal and added an assist as the Cataractes doubled up the Voltigeurs.

Ashton Bernard and Antoine Houde-Caron also counted for Shawinigan (33-33-0-4), which faces Gatineau in the opening round of the playoffs.

Mike Hoffman and Radek Vlasanek replied for Drummondville (14-51-2-3), which will not participate in the playoffs.

Kevin Maletto made 22 saves for the Cataractes, while Nathan Dunnett and Michael Dupont combined to stop 26 shots for the Voltigeurs.

Olympiques 3 Foreurs 1

At Val-d'Or, Que., Matthew Pistilli and Jean-Philip Chabot both scored a goal and added an assist as the Olympiques edged the Foreurs.

Darryl Smith got the other goal for Gatineau (43-19-6-2).

Sebastien Savoie replied for Val-d'Or (27-34-3-6), who will take on Rouyn-Noranda.

Maxime Clermont made 27 saves for the Olympiques, while Raffaele D'Orso also turned away 27 shots for the Foreurs.

Huskies 4 Tigres 0

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Maxim Gougeon made 24 saves as the Huskies blanked the Tigres.

Brett Morrison, Michael Dubuc, Yannick Riendeau and Jarrad Struthers scored for Rouyn-Noranda (47-20-2-1).

Tommy Legault and Kevin Poulin combined to stop 37 shots for Victoriaville (29-37-2-2).

Drakkar 4 Oceanic 3

At Rimouski, Que., Marc-Andre Laroche scored two goals and added an assist as the Drakkar edged the Oceanic in a first-round playoff preview.

Marc-Andre Laroche and Benjamin Breault also counted for Baie-Comeau (45-19-2-4).

Philippe Cornet, Pierre-Alexandre Joncas and Alexandre Neron replied for Rimouski (33-36-1-0).

Marco Cousineau made 25 saves for the Drakkar, while Tommy Perreault turned away 22 shots for the Oceanic.
