Dan Spence claimed a place in the Calgary Hitmen record books Wednesday.
Spence stopped 25 shots to record his club-record 75th win as the Hitmen downed the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-1 in Western Hockey League action.
Bostjan Golicic and Brett Sonne scored in the first period for the Hitmen (2-0-1) as Spence made nine saves, including three on Edmonton forward Robin Soudek, to keep the Oil Kings (1-2-0) off the scoresheet.
Elsewhere in the WHL on Wednesday, it was Moose Jaw 4 Prince Albert 3 and Kamloops 4 Vancouver 3 (SO).
At Calgary, Brett Breitkreuz finally got one past Spence in the second period when his one-timer of a pass from Brenden Dowd found the back of the net.
Brandon Kozun then converted a pass from Sonne for an insurance marker in the third period for the Hitmen, who avenged a 4-3 loss they suffered in Edmonton to the Oil Kings last Saturday night.
Ian Schultz added an empty-net goal, while Keith Seabrook and Chase Schaber each had a pair of assists for Calgary.
Warriors 4 Raiders 3
At Prince Albert, Sask., Thomas Frazee scored a goal and an assist to lead Moose Jaw over the Raiders.
Blazers 4 Giants 3 (SO)
At Kamloops, B.C., C.J. Stretch scored the lone goal of the shootout to give the Blazers a win over Vancouver.
