WHL: Schaber leads Hitmen to rout of Raiders

Chase Schaber scored twice and had an assist to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 7-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.

Tyler Fiddler and Ian Schultz each had a goal and two assists for the Hitmen (37-5-1-1), who won their 12th in a row and also stretched their franchise-record, home-ice winning streak to 16 straight games at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Michael Stone, Jason MacDonald and Cody Sylvester also scored for the Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked team, while Paul Postma and Brendan Rowinski each had two assists.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Kelowna 5 Seattle 2; Kamloops 8 Portland 6; Medicine Hat 4 Red Deer 3; Spokane 4 Chilliwack 1; and Everett 3 Tri-City 1.

At Calgary, Bryce Lamb scored the lone goal of the game for the Raiders (20-22-2-0) at 19:25 of the third period to spoil Calgary goalie Martin Jones's bid for a third straight shutout and fourth in a row at the Saddledome.

Jones finished the game with 21 saves, while Prince Albert netminder Steven Stanford stopped 27 of 34 shots at the other end.

Rockets 5 Thunderbirds 2

At  Kelowna, B.C., Cody Almond and Lucas Bloodoff both had a goal and two assists as the Rockets defeated Seattle.

Tyson Barrie, Stepan Novotny and Collin Bowman also scored for Kelowna (24-16-0-0).

Devon LeBlanc and Jonathan Parker replied for Seattle (17-21-1-2).

Blazers 8 Winter Hawks 6

At Kamloops, B.C., the Blazers spread the offence around, getting goals from eight different players in a victory over Portland.

Giffen Nyren, Jimmy Bubnick, Tyler Shattock, Shayne Wiebe, Brendan Ranford, Alex Rodgers, Zak Stebner and Brady Calla scored for Kamloops (18-21-1-4).

Luke Walker, with two, Travis Ehrhardt, Colin Reddin, Stefan Schneider and Sawyer Mick replied for Portland (12-26-1-0).

Tigers 4 Rebels 3

At Red Deer, Alta., Ryan Holfeld stopped 32 shots in regulation and Mark Ishwerwood scored the lone goal during a shootout as Medicine Hat edged the Rebels.

Tristan King, Bretton Cameron and Sean Ringrose scored in regulation for Medicine Hat (23-14-3-3).

Landon Ferraro, with two goals, and Colin Archer replied for Red Deer (15-21-1-6).

Chiefs 4 Bruins 1

At Spokane, Wash., Stefan Ulmer scored two goals as the Chiefs beat Chilliwack.

Mitch Wahl and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Chiefs (23-14-0-3).

Ryan Howse scored for Chilliwack (12-26-2-2), breaking James Reid's shutout bid with 3:20 remaining.

Silvertips 3 Americans 1

At Everett, Wash., Thomas Heemskerk made 30 saves to earn his first win for the Silvertips, who beat Tri-City in their first game since trading star winger Kyle Beach.

Dale Hunt, Shane Harper and Jesse Burt scored for Everett (18-16-5-0).

Mitch Fadden scored and Brett Martyniuk made 25 saves in goal for Tri-City (27-11-0-2).
