John Tavares wasn't about to be held off the scoresheet for a second straight night.

Tavares's league-leading 40th goal of the season with 13:31 left in the third period lifted the London Knights to a 3-2 victory over the Belleville Bulls on Saturday night in a battle of OHL division leaders.

Tavares added an assist on Phil Varone's power-play goal earlier in the third period, giving him 14 goals and eight assists in nine games since joining the Knights in a blockbuster trade with the Oshawa Generals at the OHL trade deadline.

Tavares had been held without a point in London's 3-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday. The Oakville, Ont., native leads the OHL in scoring with 76 points, seven ahead of Belleville's Eric Tangradi, who scored his 31st goal for the Bulls on Saturday.

In other OHL action Saturday, it was: Erie 5 Guelph 2; Brampton 5 Peterborough 1; Mississauga 7 Plymouth 4; Saginaw 5 Sault Ste. Marie 2; Niagara 4 Barrie 3; and Sudbury at Owen Sound.
