BOUCHERVILLE, Que. - The Lewiston Maineiacs will need permission from the Montreal Junior to relocate to a nearby off-island suburb, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League said Friday.

During a conference call held with league owners, QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau was mandated to redefine the territorial rights contained in the league charter, and to find solutions regarding existing franchise contracts.

The request comes after the Maineiacs were granted permission to seek relocation. The franchise is interested in moving to Boisbriand, located 35 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Because the Junior hold territorial rights in the area, the Maineiacs will need the go-ahead from the club in order to move there.

Also Friday, the commissioner awarded the Acadie-Bathurst Titan a 30-day extension to submit a relocation request. The Moncton Telegraph-Journal reported Wednesday that Titan owner Leo-Guy Morrissette is looking to move the team, which ranks last in QMJHL attendance at 1,772 fans per game.
