QMJHL: Voltigeurs score early and often on Tigres

The Drummondville Voltigeurs keep hammering their opponents, but they can't seem to shake the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Sean Couturier and Yannick Riendeau each scored twice as Drummondville hammered the Victoriaville Tigres 8-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Thursday.

The QMJHL-leading Voltigeurs (48-10-0-4) have scored at least five goals in six of their past nine games, including three 10-goal performances.

Despite all their success, however, they can't seem to open their lead over the Cataractes, who trail Drummondville by just two points in the Central Division standings.

Shawinigan (48-12-2-0) kept pace with Drummondville with a 5-2 win over Chicoutimi on Thursday.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Cape Breton 5 Acadie-Bathurst 4; and Halifax 4 P.E.I. 2.

At Victoriaville, Que., Marc-Antoine Desnoyers, Dmitry Kulikov, Jonathan Brunelle and Gabriel Dumont also scored for Drummondville.

Travis McIsaac and Joel Chouinard replied for the Tigres (27-32-1-2).

Antoine Tardif stopped 29 shots for Drummondville while Antonio Mastropietro and Jean-Michel Fortier combined for 32 saves for Victoriaville.

Cataractes 5 Sagueneens 2

At Chicoutimi, Que., Alex Grant had two goals and an assist as Shawinigan beat the Sagueneens.

Pierre-Alexandre Vandall, Maxime Legault and Eric Bouchard also scored for the Cataractes.

Pierre-Karl Marion and Mathieu Tousignant replied for Chicoutimi (22-28-4-7).

Screaming Eagles 5 Titan 4

At Bathurst, N.B., Joey Haddad scored with 18 seconds left as Cape Breton came back to beat Acadie-Bathurst.

Robert Slaney, Taylor MacDougall, Jan Piskacek and Stephen Horyl Also scored for the Screaming Eagles (41-17-3-1).

Vincent Couture, Remi Blanchard, Maxime Renaud and Francis Hevey replied for the Titan (20-29-6-6).

Mooseheads 4 Rocket 2

At Halifax, Yuri Cheremetiev and Gabriel Desjardins each had a goal and an assist as the Mooseheads beat P.E.I.

Alexis Piette and  Linden Bahm also scored for Halifax (17-37-3-3).

Benjamin Casavant had both goals for the Rocket (21-30-4-5).
