QMJHL: Voltigeurs complete sweep of Maineiacs

Four teams were eliminated from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs, but none were bounced from the post-season with as much flair as the Lewiston Maineiacs.

Mike Hoffman scored the first three goals of the game, Yannick Riendeau had two goals and an assist, and the Drummondville Voltigeurs finished their first-round sweep of the Maineiacs with a 9-3 win Wednesday.

The Saint John Sea Dogs, Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Victoriaville Tigres were also eliminated Wednesday, but none of those teams were beaten as thoroughly as Lewiston.

The Maineiacs were outscored 38-9 by the Voltigeurs, who had a 6-0 lead in Game 4 after just 20 minutes.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL playoffs it was: Cape Breton 3 Saint John 2; P.E.I. 5 Moncton 4; Gatineau 4 Acadie-Bathurst 0; Rouyn-Noranda 3 Montreal 2; Quebec 5 Baie-Comeau 2; Rimouski 4 Chicoutimi 3; and Shawinigan 2 Victoriaville 1.

At Lewiston, Maine, Christopher DiDomenico had two goals for Drummondville, while Dany Masse and Philippe Lefebvre also scored.

Dominic Savoie, Marc Bourgeois and Tommy Dery replied for Lewiston.

Antoine Tardif made 23 saves for the Voltigeurs, while Adrien Lemay and Peter Delmas combined for 49 saves for the Maineiacs.

Screaming Eagles 3 Sea Dogs 2

At Saint John, N.B.,  Robert Slaney scored twice as Cape Breton completed its sweep of the Sea Dogs. Marco Desveaux also scored for the Screaming Eagles. Olivier Ouellet and Payton Liske replied for Saint John.

Rocket 5 Wildcats 4

At Charlottetown, Bobby Nadeau made 41 saves as P.E.I. staved off elimination with a win over Moncton. Lucas McKinley, Ben Duffy, Jarrad Struthers, Chris Doyle and Jean-Philippe Mathieu scored for the Rocket. Matt Eagles, Brandon Gormley, Zach Sill and David Savard replied for the Wildcats, who still lead the series 3-1. Game 5 is Saturday in Moncton.

Olympiques 4 Titan 0
At Bathurst, N.B., Marc-Antoine Gelinas made 18 saves as Gatineau took a 3-1 series lead over Acadie-Bathurst. Paul Byron had a goal and two assists for Gatineau, while Jean-Philip Chabot and Alexandre Touchette  also scored. Game 5 is Friday in Bathurst.

Huskies 3 Junior 2
At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Jeff Desjardins scored twice as the Huskies evened their series with Montreal 2-2.    Brad Yetman also scored for Rouyn-Noranda. Jeremy Gouchie and Toni Ritter replied for the Junior. Game 5 is Friday in Montreal.

Remparts 5 Drakkar 2

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Kelsey Tessier scored twice as Quebec took a 3-1 series lead over the Drakkar. Marc-Olivier Vallerand, Mikhail Stefanovich and Mikael Tam also scored for Quebec. Roman Malinik and Pierre-Luc Lessard replied for Baie-Comeau. Game 5 is Friday in Quebec City.

Oceanic 4 Sagueneens 3

At Chicoutimi, Que., Sebastien Piche scored the winner with less than a minute left in regulation and Rimouski completed a sweep of the Sagueneens. Keven Veilleux, Luca Cunti and Mathieu Asselin also scored for the Oceanic. Maxim Guerin, Nicolas Deschamps and Jacob Lagace replied for Chicoutimi.

Cataractes 2 Tigres 1
At Victoriaville, Que., Nicholas Petersen scored in overtime as Shawinigan completed a sweep of the Tigres.  Philippe Paradis scored in regulation for the Cataractres. Brandon Hynes replied for Victoriaville.
