BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The Brampton Battalion are one win away from their first-ever appearance in the Ontario Hockey League final.

Scott Tanski broke a 2-2 tie at 3:25 of the third period and added a needed insurance goal as the Battalion held off the Belleville Bulls 4-3 Tuesday to take a 3-1 series lead in their Eastern Conference Championship series.

They really took it to us for the first half of the game," Brampton coach Stan Butler said."Thomas McCollum gave us a chance to stay in it and once (Matt) Duchene scored late in the second our energy level was a lot better. Belleville's a very good defensive team and to score three goals like that in a period is a credit to our players."

Belleville opened the scoring at 4:03 of the first period on Nick Palmieri's first goal of the game.

They added to their lead on the power play 3:04 into the second period when Bryan Cameron beat Thomas McCollum to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Brampton got some life at 17:54 of the second period when Matt Duchene beat Belleville goalie Mike Murphy, reducing the deficit to one goal.

The Battalion pulled even 2:00 into the third period on a Thomas Stajan goal, paving the way for Tanski's pair.

Palmieri made it a one-goal game with his second of the night at 19:06, making for some anxious moments fro Brampton in the final seconds.

"I thought for 35 minutes we did exactly what we needed to do," said Belleville head coach George Burnett. "We played a smart, simple, straightforward 35 minutes and then we got outworked. We stopped winning face-offs and stopped pressuring the puck."

McCollum turned aside 17 of the 20 shots while Murphy made 20 saves on 24 shots.

The two teams meet in Belleville for Game 5 on Thursday night.
