WHL: Bouma leads Giants to win over Rockets

KELOWNA, B,C, -- Lance Bouma scored the game-winning goal for Vancouver late in the third period as the Giants defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in Western Hockey League playoff action on Tuesday night.

The Giants lead the Western Conference championship series 2-1 after losing the opening game. Game 4 of the best-of-seven series goes Thursday night at in Kelowna, B.C.

Garry Nunn, with his third playoff goal, and Craig Cunningham, with his fifth, also scored for Vancouver.

Cody Almond, with his seventh, and Jamie Benn, with his ninth, replied for Kelowna, which opened Tuesday's scoring early in the first period but trailed 2-1 heading into the third.

Tyson Sexsmith made 33 saves for the Giants, while Mark Guggenberger turned aside 21 shots for the Rockets.

In Brandon, Ian Schultz scored the winning goal 1:04 into overtime to lift the Calgary Hitmen to a 4-3 win over the Wheat Kings.

Schultz's breakaway goal gave the Hitmen a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, moving them one win away from advancing to the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference final.

Kris Foucault scored twice and Brett Sonne rounded out the scoring for the Hitmen, who will try to wrap up the series in Game 4 on Wednesday.

Aaron Lewadniuk, Matt Calvert and Colby Robak scored for the Wheat Kings.

Martin Jones stopped 24 shots for Calgary, while Brandon netminder Andrew Hayes made 28 saves.
