WHL: Hitmen advance to WHL final with sweep of Wheat Kings

BRANDON, Man. - The Calgary Hitmen are off to the Western Hockey League's championship series.

The Hitmen beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-4 on Wednesday night to complete a four-game sweep of the Eastern Conference final.

Keith Seabrook, Paul Postma, Alex Plante, Bostjan Golicic, Brett Sonne and Tomas Karpov all scored for the Hitmen, who are a perfect 12-0 in the post-season, matching a WHL record for consecutive playoff victories. Kris Foucault of the Hitmen was named the series most valuable player.

Andrew Clark, Jordan Hale, Jay Fehr and Nathan Green replied for the Wheat Kings, who started the playoffs with eight straight victories before dropping four in a row to the Hitmen.

Martin Jones stopped 12 shots for Calgary, while Brandon netminder Andrew Hayes made 15 saves on 19 shots before being replaced by James Priestner, who stopped 14 of 16 shots.

The Hitmen will play the winner of the Western Conference final between the Vancouver Giants and Kelowna Rockets.
